IBM Acquires Cognos for $5 Billion

Well, this raises a couple of questions, doesn't it?

1. I wonder how many deals Cognos was able to close as "the only major pure-play BI vendor," as they called themselves in the five weeks since SAP acquired Business Objects?
2. If you have been considering Applix's TM1 product for a financial reporting or budgeting solution, did you have any clue that you would ultimately be dealing with IBM three months ago?
